my wedding report....

Everything seemed to be going wrong the days leading up to the wedding....which made me very stressed indeed!

My dress was hemmed and picked up but it was still too long and there wasn't time to have it re-hemmed. At the end of the day it wasn't that bad, I just kept tripping up though!

My sister and I were fighting, she did nothing to help with the wedding planning and stayed in the night before the wedding when we decorated the reception room. On that note too, when we got the the reception room there was one table missing from the table plan, so we had to rearrange the whole room before we could even start decorating!

There was no official rehearsal dinner as we had no rehearsal, so all my guests who had travelled from Canada and England all went out for a meal. I organised taxi cabs to pick them all up from the hotel as none of them had cars....we arrived just after everyone else to find out that my sister and nephew were no where to be found...they hadn't made the cabs in time and had ended up in the wrong restaurant. By the time they made it to the place it was an hour later...which would ordinarily be no big deal but we have a nearly two year old son, and half way through dinner he was so tired he started acting up and OH had to take him home, so didn't even get to finish his meal or beer!

WEDDING DAY!

I was up really early to go and get my hair done and was upset to see the bad weather. It wasn't just raining, it was chucking it down and there was a strong wind as well. Guess that's Scotland for you!

My hair took half an hour longer than planned, but it looked absolutely gorgeous! When I got home we had 20 minutes before getting pictures taken, however my sister hadn't even had a shower yet! She went in to the bathroom as soon as I got in, and then took ages getting ready, which meant I couldn't get my lenses in and do my makeup. So, we were late for the pictures, and therefore they were rushed through, and we forgot to take a few set pics I had wanted.

Still chucking it down with rain when we headed to the ceremony, although it was lovely to ride in the limo with my mum and dad...when we arrived the guests weren't all there yet so they had me in a little room hiding from everyone for awhile, and then finally the registrar took us through to the entrance. They really should allow for rehearsals though, my bridesmaids had never seen the place before and apparantly didn't know they were walking down the aisle, so were on each others heels and didn't wait for the music to play! My pal was frantically trying to get the cd started as they hoofed it to the front, meanwhile my poor nephew looked up at me and said "where's mommy gone?" and then proceeded to run after her down the aisle. LOL. This meant my dad's favourite song, played by my mum, was played only for a few short moments while my dad walked me down the aisle..but he and I knew what it was so that's okay.

I don't really remember much about the service to be honest, it really all becomes a blur. Guess that's all I have though, as OH was stressed and forgot to give the video camera to the appointed person, so NOTHING got video'ed on the day.

Reception was not much better...they hadn't bought enough food for the kids meals, so we ended up going to the local chippy to get fish and chips for my nephew...7 people whose meals had been prepaid didn't show up (and didn't let us know)....ended up spending most of my time chasing after our son because everyone else was too drunk, which meant I missed out on a lot of dancing and was trying to put him to bed when my request of the Hokey Cokey (My late grandad's favourite, so sentimental to me) was played. Gutted...

First dance was the highlight of the day for me, "Always be right there" by Bryan Adams. My now hubby looked at me so lovingly, and then halfway through we were interupted by our little boy who came up into our arms and danced with us just as the song says "forever we will be, together a family"....it was beautiful.

I did try to get one dance in with some pals, only to have someone stand on my dress and rip the entire side seam. We have a great picture of my mum "pinning" me back together again...

The bestman "forgot" to toast the bridesmaids (which I thought was the entire point of his speech, but whatever) and my dad's speech was more about his family feuds (without being directed at anyone) than it was about Gordon and I.....

The best part of the night was when the staff came and asked which cake was to get cut (we had a slab cake in back as well as the M&S cake wasn't big enough for everyone to get some). I said we'd cut the cake at 9:00pm and that they should cut all the cake and leave some out for people who may want extra. 9:00pm - Picture bride running to catering area at top speed trying to catch the staff before they sliced into her cake BEFORE we had done the official cake cutting! It was rather funny!

Our son was supposed to go back to our house with my sister however she was too drunk to take care of him (guess we paid for too much wine then!) so he stayed with us in his travel cot and decided 4:30am was the perfect time to get up...I was back home at 5:30am watching Toy Story and Finding Nemo so that my new hubby could get some sleep in our hotel room. Oh well....

All in all, the day was NOTHING like I expected, however all our guests seem to have had a blast and most were hung over the next day (always a sign they had a good night). We've had nothing but compliments on how much fun it was and how great the day was from start to finish....

Not all things went as planned BUT I still loved the entire day looking back on it now. The bridesmaids running down the aisle and then the pageboy running after them...the tearing of my dress, me chasing after my cake...those are all HILAREOUS to me!

And, I'm married! I had a good time on honeymoon (in Budapest and Vienna) with my two boys and we're back home now unpacking and getting back to life as we always knew it.

What a great story Karen. My sister said she couldn't remember the service at the church either. She had someone tape it for them, but the tape was eaten by the camera. Oh, but every wedding has to have a few things go wrong right! Glad to hear it went well, besides the few mishaps.

I'm not sure I could have handled that much stress with the smile that you have on your face in all the pictures.

I guess you just have to accept that some things won't turn out as anticipated, and hope that in the end everyone has a good time, especially you and your new husband. It's good that you can look back and laugh at things. All big parties like this need a few crazy moments.

I'm so happy for you both!
